In Buddhism, there are eight auspicious symbols which are known as ashtamangala. These eight symbols were the offerings made by the Gods to Lord Buddha, after he attained enlightenment. The eight symbols include conch, endless knot, pair of gold fishes, lotus, parasol, vase, dharmachakra ,and victory banner. In hindu traditions it may be used in occasions like weddings, pujas or coronations. These symbols have a mention in buddhism and Jainism texts as well. They are also depicted in beautiful motifs and cultural artifacts.
The wise man therefore always holds in these matters to this principle of selection: he rejects pleasures to secure other greater pleasures, or else he endures pains to avoid worse pains.
